Ang pow and cost per seat

What each seat at your banquet costs, and how guests think about ang pow

Couples ask what a seat costs them; guests ask what to put in the ang pow. The first is arithmetic on a hotel’s price or your own quote. The second is custom, so we only report what dated, published guides say, in their words.

Checked against each source on 5 October 2026

Your cost per seat

This uses only your own numbers. The starting figures are an example, not any hotel’s price. Get your all-in total from the banquet calculator.

After service charge and tax

Everyone seated, including the two of you

Each seat costs you

RM356.40

A full table of 10: RM3,564.00

One seat’s share of each printed banquet price

Every wedding banquet price the hotels print, from the same documents as the hotel prices page. A price per table of 10 is divided by 10; a price per person is already one seat. The mark stays the hotel’s own, so a “++” seat still has service charge and tax to add (how the marks work).

Left out: Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel & Residences, Eternity Western Wedding Dinner; Pullman Kuala Lumpur City Centre Hotel & Residences, Eternity International Buffet Wedding Dinner. The hotel’s own brochure gives two different units for them (per table and per person), so a per-seat figure could be ten times wrong. Ask the hotel which applies.

What guests give: what published guides say

None of these is a survey. Each is a writer’s guide, quoted exactly and dated, so you can see how old it is. They don’t agree: the newer guides give higher figures than the older ones. The newest works from each venue’s banquet packages with tax added and the result rounded up, where the list above splits the printed price per seat and adds nothing.

We don’t set a figure of our own. What a guest gives is a family and community custom.

“…” marks words we left out. Where a guide names hotels in a tier, we leave the names out: those hotels didn’t publish the figure.
