Pre-wedding photoshoot in KL: where, what it takes, and when
Some of the best-known places to shoot around Kuala Lumpur need an application weeks ahead, a staff escort or a day charge. Here is what each one publishes, in its own words, and what it leaves for you to ask.

We list a place only when it, or the authority that runs it, publishes something a couple can act on. Charges are shown as printed; open a location below for the source.

FRIM’s page doesn’t say whether the day rate covers both of you, the photographer and an assistant, so ask when you apply.

Check before you book: FRIM’s page gives the deadline two ways: “at least seven (7) days before” above the table and “within seven (7) working days before” below it. Apply at least seven working days ahead to meet both. Its opening hours for the Kepong Botanic Gardens list Monday to Thursday and weekends, but not Friday: ask before booking a Friday.

PPj runs one online filming application for all of Putrajaya. Its charge is for photography described as commercial or magazine work; PPj doesn’t say whether a couple’s own shoot counts, so ask before you book. Drones are refused: Putrajaya is a no-fly zone. Approval takes 14 days once every document is in.
How to apply
Semua permohonan perlu dikemukakan melalui sistem atas talian di portal rasmi Perbadanan Putrajaya
Lead time
Permohonan perlu dikemukakan 21 hari sebelum tarikh penggambaran
Penggambaran menggunakan dron/UAV adalah tidak dibenarkan kerana Putrajaya merupakan ‘Zon Larangan Terbang’
Check before you book: PPj’s two documents set the charges out differently: the FAQ lists photography separately, while the rate table on the application page lists advertising, drama, documentary, music video and “Lain-lain” (other), with no photography row. Neither covers Putrajaya’s public parks, which are booked separately (below). Ask PPj which charge applies to you.

MetMalaysia doesn’t give advice for photoshoots, but its own pages describe when the storms come. Plan outdoor sets for the morning and keep an indoor or covered backup, especially in the inter-monsoon months.
Thunderstorms come most often in April to May and October to November, and on land they usually arrive in the evening and at dusk.
Source: MetMalaysia: Weather Phenomena, read 13 October 2026
“Thunderstorms can occur throughout the year but are more frequent during the inter-monsoon period from April to May and from October to November. On land, thunderstorms usually occur in the evening and dusk while in the ocean, they often occur at night.”
Between the monsoons, mornings are usually clear and the storms build in the afternoon.
Source: MetMalaysia: Weather Phenomena, read 13 October 2026
“During the inter-monsoon phase, the wind is light and variable. In the morning, the sky is usually clear and this has helped the formation of thunderstorms in the afternoon.”
Over most of the Peninsula, rain peaks in October to November and again in April to May, and is lowest around June to July and in February. MetMalaysia describes regions, not cities, so this is the pattern for the west of the Peninsula away from the southwest coast.
Source: MetMalaysia: Malaysia’s Climate, read 13 October 2026
“Over the rest of the Peninsula with the exception of the southwest coastal area, the monthly rainfall pattern shows two periods of maximum rainfall separated by two periods of minimum rainfall. The primary maximum generally occurs in October - November while the secondary maximum generally occurs in April - May. Over the northwestern region, the primary minimum occurs in January - February and the secondary minimum occurs in June - July while elsewhere the primary minimum occurs in June - July with the secondary minimum occurs in February.”
What to ask a photographer before you pay a deposit
We don’t quote studio or photographer packages: they are set by each business, change often and aren’t published in a form we can check. Ask for a written quote that answers these:
Is the location’s own charge, permit and any staff escort included, or paid by us? Who applies, and by when?
How many hours, how many locations and how many outfit changes does the quote cover?
Are hair, make-up and gown or suit rental included? From whom, and for how many looks?
How many edited photos do we get, in what form, and how long after the shoot?
Is a video or a drone in the quote? (Drones are refused in Putrajaya.)
What happens if it rains: a new date at no charge, an indoor backup, or neither?
How much is the deposit, and is any of it refundable if we cancel or move the date?
Is transport between locations included?
Can we see a full gallery from one shoot, not only the best frames?
Shooting at your wedding hotel
If you are booking your banquet with a hotel, ask whether a shoot in its lobby, garden or ballroom can be part of your package, on which date, and whether an outside photographer is allowed. Every price the hotels print is on the hotel prices page, and each hotel’s largest space is on the ballrooms page.
